2019 Highlights
Naming of chancellor tops list of 2019 university news
The announcement in November of a new chancellor is the top news story of 2019 at UW-Stout as chosen by the staff of University Communications. The No. 2 news story of the year is the retirement of Bob Meyer as chancellor. Rounding out the top five are the completion of two building renovations and continuation of another; the employment rate of recent graduates rising for the fifth straight year to 98.7% and a $2.36 million donation by the Menard family to the Menard Center for the Study of Institutions and Innovation. Donation by Menard family will support programming on campus and across the state
The Menard family, Wisconsin natives and owners of a Midwestern chain of home improvement stores, donated $2.36 million to the Stout University Foundation to expand the Center for the Study of Institutions and Innovations on Dec. 11. "I want to thank the Menard family for this generous gift and for believing so strongly in the mission of this center," said interim Chancellor Patrick Guilfoile. "This support will allow the center to do even more to fulfill its mission, which is to promote the study and discussion of civil liberties and related institutions and innovations through scholarly inquiry, educational activities, and community outreach."  Read more →

Alum helps put the ugly - and beauty - in Christmas sweaters
If you've seen an ugly Christmas sweater this holiday season or purchased one, there's a chance it was designed by a UW-Stout graduate. Kurt Anderson is the lead costume and apparel designer for, a leading maker of specialty clothing. The Mankato, Minn., company is known as one of the world's largest Halloween costume retailers. In recent years with the ugly sweaters craze, has transitioned quickly from Halloween to Christmas sweaters.  Read more →

Alexis Arnold `99 is running the Artless Bastard Gallery in downtown DePere. The gallery hosts monthly art exhibits and a fine art gift shop.

Jeffery Brown `89 is the president of the Illinois Design Educators Association (IDEA).

Paul Cunningham `75 celebrated his 50-year anniversary at Schreiner's Restaurant in Fond du Lac. He has owned the restaurant since 1992.

Carolyn Porter `91 was a 2019 featured speaker at TEDxMahtomedi, an annual event held under the aegis of the world-famous TED talks. Her talk is titled “The Unexpected Journey of a Passion Project.”
