School of Art and Design

Nationally and internationally known faculty continually explore fields of scholarly and creative research while providing students a solid foundation for careers in art and design fields. We recognize that the creative marketplace has the potential to transform economic, social and environmental structures for the better. We believe that our unique brand of applied art and design education brings innovation to cultural, economic, environmental, and social spheres. When asked why he hires our graduates, alumnus Todd Dalebroux, Executive Creative Director of Baker and Associates, responds, "UW-Stout graduates are ready! UW-Stout's art and design graduates are emerging from college as well-rounded citizens who can 'do', create, think, adapt and take on a challenge." Furlong Gallery

Furlong Gallery & Student Gallery
The Furlong Gallery and the Student Gallery 209 provide year round exhibitions free of charge to the campus, local and regional communities, and provides national artists, students, and faculty with excellent exhibition facilities. Contributions will enable the gallery to continue to be a robust resource through underwriting costs associated with curating high quality exhibitions and administering the Furlong Permanent Collection Artwork Loan program.

Artist Residency & Visiting Artist Series
The SOAD has a long history of visiting regional and international artists and designers who have informed and inspired students, faculty and community members. Founded in 1987, the Bud and Betty Micheels Artist in Residency Program provides students opportunities to explore the relationship between art and technology. Contributions to either of these two priorities will enhance the student experience by providing immersive creative experiences for years to come. More about the SAIR program:
